Sports bettors in two of the United States largest sports wagering markets (New Jersey and Illinois) now have more places to place a bet with FanDuel after the powerhouse online and land-based sportsbook recently opened two more bricks-and-mortar gaming facilities.

In addition to their market-leading online sportsbook in the Land of Lincoln, FanDuel Sportsbook at the now-renamed FanDuel Sportsbook & Horse Racing (formerly known as Fairmount Park) in Collinsville, Illinois, opened recently with former St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer and multiple-Gold Glove winning shortstop Ozzie Smith making the ceremonial first wager at the facility.

Meanwhile, in the Garden State, FanDuel opened its permanent bricks-and-mortar sportsbook location at Bally’s Hotel & Casino on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. FanDuel had initially opened a temporary land-based sportsbook at Bally’s in December. With the opening at Bally’s, now all nine Atlantic City casinos now have in-house sportsbooks available for sports betting.

FanDuel Bally’s New Jersey

Conveniently located for customers in Atlantic City by the Northern boardwalk casino entrance, the new sportsbook’s visitors will be greeted by two large video walls screening games, live odds etc., and a number of betting kiosks. The interior of the new FanDuel sportsbook features an enormous 25-foot-wide cutting-edge LED video wall, flanked by two 10-foot-wide LED video walls on each side and another 10 video displays available to ensure betting fans have all the action on hand at any single moment.

Sports betting aficionados can place their sports bets at one of five betting windows or if they prefer self-serve, at one of twenty IGT Play Sports self-serve betting terminals. FanDuel’s trading technology will enable its IGT PlaySports platform to offer bets on all major U.S. sports, including NFL, MLB, UFC, NBA, NCCA basketball (just in time for March Madness), NCAA football, NHL, PGA Tour Golf, NASCAR. MLS and EPL soccer, tennis and much more besides.

The Atlantic City New Jersey Bally’s/FanDuel facility is the fifth land-based sportsbook that Bally’s has opened with the iconic gaming company now operating sportsbooks in Colorado, Mississippi, New Jersey, Delaware and Rhode Island.

FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing Illinois

Located in the south-west corner of the state of Illinois close to the city of St Louis and the Missouri border, it’s hardly surprising that St Louis Cardinals’ legend Ozzie Smith placed the first legal wager at the new sportsbook. For the record, Smith plunged $20 on the St Louis Cardinals to win baseball’s World Series at +2200.

Smith made comments at the FanDuel opening on how much things have changed and how much attitudes from the general public and lawmakers alike;

“I’m a novice (sports bettor), and playing baseball for 19 years, they frowned on (sports betting) and I stayed as far away from it as I could,” Smith said after placing his wager. “For a long time after a guy retired, he couldn’t be associated with any casinos or anything of that nature, so most of us stayed away from it. And it has evolved, and now you can bet on anything”, Smith said.

With the opening of its new bricks-and-mortar Illinois sportsbook, this marks the 16th land-based sportsbook that FanDuel has offered to its customers. It is also the latest location to offer a FanDuel sportsbook at a horse racing track. FanDuel also operates a sportsbook at New Jersey’s Monmouth Park.

FanDuel Senior Director of Retail Operations Jeff Lowich said that converting FanDuel Sportsbook & Horse Racing into a ‘racino’ is still in its early stages;

“Coming from the racing side myself, being able to be a part of the revitalization of this location is super-exciting for me personally, and from a company standpoint we couldn’t be more excited to open here,” Lowich said excitedly.
