Fans of FanDuel in New Jersey have a new face to look forward to. Kenny “The Jet” Smith, two-time NBA Champion with the Houston Rockets, and a leading analyst for TNT’s Sports Emmy Award-winning show Inside the NBA, is joining the FanDuel Group team in an exclusive content deal with the leading Garden State online sportsbook operator. Smith is the second big name former NBA champion to be named on the FanDuel team in the last few months, following the recruitment of ‘Sir’ Charles Barkley in late 2020. This new partnership deal establishes that Smith will appear in FanDuel advertising and TNT promotions featuring a number of free to play contests. Smith will also provide a unique range of content for the FanDuel Group’s social media channels. Smith said: “Partnering with FanDuel has been a great addition to Inside the NBA. I am looking forward to collaborating with FanDuel on future projects, as well as, interacting with our viewers each night through FanDuel’s new free to play game that will become a bigger part of our broadcasts,” he added. Smith will join NBA hall of famer and his fellow ‘Inside the NBA’ analyst Charles Barkley as part of the FanDuel set up, alongside JJ Zachariason and Pat McAfee. The team will cross promote a new free to play game that Fan Duel has designed exclusively for Turner Sports featuring between 8-to-12 Over/Under style questions. For the remainder of this year’s NBA season, online bettors will have the opportunity to test their knowledge compared to Smith’s each TNT game night for Over/Under dominance. In July 2020, FanDuel Group became the exclusive sportsbook partner for NBA programming on Turner Sports properties including content integrations across Bleacher Report. Together with his long-term verbal sparring partner in Charles Barkley, the two have been educating viewers on sports betting via FanDuel Sportsbook integrations since the 2020 NBA playoffs. The FanDuel Over/Under competition will be integrated into Inside the NBA and NBA on TNT broadcasts giving fans the opportunity to compete for a share of the proposed $5000 prize pool. Will Funk, Executive Vice President, Sports Partnerships and Branded Content, Turner Sports is thrilled by the concept; “Over his 23 years with Turner Sports, Kenny’s trademark humor and insight has stirred the pot and helped make Inside the NBA one of the best shows on television. We’re excited to feature him as part of FanDuel’s branded content across our NBA programming,” Funk said. On the flipside for FanDuel, Chief Marketing Officer of FanDuel Group, Mike Raffensperger said; “Kenny Smith is an NBA Champion, a beloved NBA analyst, the all-time assist leader at the University of North Carolina and someone whose magnetic personality and smile brings people together. We love Kenny on TV every Thursday night, but it’s his positivity and tireless dedication to the community that made us want to add his voice to our brand roster of sports personalities.” While it wasn’t announced in the FanDuel press release on the Kenny Smith signing, we are anticipating that Smith and Barkley may be asked to add an asterix to their in-show TV comments, something along the lines of ‘bet or gamble responsibly’. FanDuel recently signed up to the American Gaming Association’s “Have A Game Plan, Bet Responsibly” campaign, which encourages responsible sports betting through its advertising in the legal sports betting states, including New Jersey. The problem gambling awareness program was launched to coincide with March’s National Problem Gambling Awareness Month.
