Fox Bet recently announced it has joined forces to create a long-term partnership with one of the most forward-thinking and innovative basketball franchises in the NBA, Pennsylvania’s own Philadelphia 76ers. The announcement is an historic one, marking the first time an online sportsbook has partnered with an NBA franchise. What Does the Deal Entail? Fox Bet will sponsor the radio broadcasts of Philly 76ers games in addition to the team’s hype video that is broadcast in-house at the Wells Fargo Center heading into the fourth quarter of 76ershome games. Fox Bet will also have its branding appear on signs at the 76ers home court, the Wells Fargo Center, and the NBA franchises digital and social media channels. Fox Bet will also be gaining access to the 76ers proprietary NBA data for live and in-play wagering purposes, allowing for the most thorough and up to date calibration of basketball betting lines available yet for Philadelphia 76ers fan base and online bettors. Robin Chhabra, Fox Bet’s Chief Executive Officer, was effusive in his support of the sponsorship deal “To have the opportunity to tie the FOX Bet brand to one of the most iconic sports franchises in NBA history is absolutely thrilling. This agreement connects us with an extremely passionate local fan base in a unique way. We are proud to be associated with the 76ers franchise as they kick off what I’m sure will be a successful 2019-20 season.” Adam Davis, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment’s Chief Commercial Officer representing the Philadelphia 76ers, was equally compelling when speaking about the deal; “Fox Bet has masterfully honed its unique brand positioning in the US; an experienced, longstanding European sportsbook, a savvy media company, and now an affiliation with the 76ers that further endears its brand and product to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey market and sports community. Recognizing the passionate 76ers fan base, Fox Bet and our team look forward to creating dynamic, digital content and continuing to drive engagement with our brand, team and league”. Clearly, this multi platform deal will allow for Fox Bet to establish a deep connection to loyal 76ers fans in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania, furthering the sportsbooks’ mission statement to encourage bringing its customers closer to the teams and sports that they love. Growth of NBA & Sports Betting Sponsorship Deals Philadelphia’s 76ers will also enjoy greater gaming exposure overall via NBC Sports Philadelphia, which recently expanded its alternative betting-focused broadcasts of the NBA franchises’ games. The Pennsylvanian-arm of the national network has announced plans to run 10 such gaming-focused games during the current season, an increase from only two such regular season games last year, with the network’s on-screen graphics detailing some of the above mentioned proprietary league betting data. NBC Sports in Washington DC pioneered these type of betting themed sports broadcasts, and they have recently announced that they too it would expand its reach over the current season to 20 Washington Wizards games during the current season, reflecting the growth of the online sports betting industry nationwide. It’s a sign that the winds of change are blowing. Though the NBA was arguably the first league to embrace online sports betting, until recently, its franchises have largely been precluded from striking up online sportsbook sponsorship deals. For its part, the NBA prohibits teams from promoting online sportsbooks unless they are based and play in U.S. states that have a legalized and regulated sports betting industry. Pennsylvania, Oregon and Indiana are the only states to date that have NBA teams that allow online sports betting sponsorship deals, in addition to the Washington Wizards (out of D.C.) mentioned above.
