Let’s examine the candidates as ALC winners, the betting odds (odds current as at 15 March – subject to change) and their pros and cons.

The New York Yankees – AL champion odds – +230

If you’re looking for a favorite to place your SugarHouse $25 free bet on, look no further than the New York Yankees. Translating the Yankees odds in percentage terms, they are rated a 30.3% chance.

The Bronx Bombers, with their additions of Jameson Taillon and Corey Kluber to their starting rotation and with the re-signing of DJ LeMahieu, have the best forecasted record of any AL team (97-65).

Chicago White Sox – AL champion odds – +380

Last year’s breakout team, the Chicago White Sox are ones to watch and many MLB experts are projecting Chicago to outperform their heroic deeds of 2020. The White Sox have recruited superbly with Lance Lynn and Liam Hendricks. You could do far worse than place your SugarHouse $25 free wager on the White Sox to win the ALC in 2021.

Minnesota Twins – AL champion odds – +750

Competing with the White Sox for superiority and win the American League (AL) Central are the Minnesota Twins. On the third line of betting the win the ALC outright in 2021, the Twins could possibly win the AL Central on the back of keeping the majority of their squad intact while adding improved glovework from newly-signed shortstop Andrelton Simmons and power from returning slugger Nelson Cruz. The Twins can mix it with any team come playoffs time.

Tampa Bay Rays – AL champion odds – +850

The Tampa Bay Rays hunger after losing the World Series will be a driver for the team to go one better. However, Tampa Bay will have to overcome the Yankees in the AL East while also holding off the challenge of a young and improving Toronto Blue Jays. As was the case last year, the Rays will put their stocks in star-studded pitching and a fantastic defensive fielding unit.

Toronto Blue Jays – AL champion odds – +875

Also coming out of the loaded AL East, Toronto were already a fantastic talented and young team in 2020, and have recruited excellently for 2021 with high profile recruits George Springer and Marcus Semien joining the Canadian outfit, along with the lower key, but arguably equally important signings of Robbie Ray and Kirby Yates. Question marks still hang over Toronto’s pitching stocks, but the Blue Jays are a definite contender bound to finish well above .500.

Oakland Athletics – AL champion odds – +900

Best of the AL West, the A’s are coming off three straight postseason runs and will need to hold off a challenge from the Houston Astros in the AL West. If the Athletics can manage to cover the losses Davis, Semien and Hendricks they’ll be set to challenge in the postseason again.
