Red Sox vs Mets MLB Betting Predictions

MLB Red Sox vs Mets Week 5
Red Sox vs Mets MLB betting predictions

Boston will send out 0-2 Garrett Richards against the Mets and lefty David Pederson (1-2). The Sox are 6-1 on the road so far this season and with their hot offense which leads the majors in runs and a rock solid bullpen (so far this season) the Mets will have their hands full. I think the starters don’t last long in this one and Boston’s bullpen comes in and cleans up. I pick Boston to win on the road.

Red Sox vs Mets Betting Odds

After beating Seattle on Friday (as correctly predicted by yours truly) the Red Sox split games at home with the Ms and have Monday as a scheduled off day. Boston is ready for a quick mid-week 2 game road trip against the NL East Mets, who also had Monday off after splitting weekend home games with the Nationals.

At 14-9 on the season the Red Sox are in good shape and in first place in the AL East meanwhile the Mets cling to first place by a game in the NL East at 9-8.

For those betting with NJ online sportsbooks, the Boston away record is the most telling stat as the Red Sox are 6-1 on the road coming into this one against New York. Still, the Sox are rolling the dice going with veteran righty Garrett Richards who is struggling so far with his new club this year, Richards has a 6.48 ERA, a WHIP of 1.88 and is 0-2 for manager Ron Roenicke.

The good news for Roenicke and Boston is at the plate where the Red Sox lead the league in runs (119), and are first in slugging .455 and BA .340. LF J.D. Martinez continues his hot start and leads Boston in most categories at the dish hitting .370 with 7 HR, 21 RBI with 30 base hits and a .446 OBP. Rafael Devers now has 6 HR and 18 RBI giving Boston good production from 3B and star shortstop Xander Bogaerts is doing what he does with a .402 OBP and hitting .366.

Mets manager Luis Rojas calls on LHP David Peterson who, like Richards, has struggled in ‘21 so far. Peterson is 1-2 on the season with a 6.75 ERA.

On offense the Mets are all over the place, 4th in MLB in OBP but last in runs scored. Ninth as a team with a .243 BA but 29th in HR. The Mets offensive enigma should sort itself out within the next couple of weeks of MLB play but if you’re here for MLB betting odds, don’t look to the Mets offense to give you answers.

This one will likely come down to each team’s bullpen as I don’t expect the starters to stick around very long on Tuesday night (see their numbers). And this is where Boston has a major advantage. The Red Sox pen is a full run better than the Mets in ERA at 3.29 vs 4.31 and Boston has 6 saves against the Mets 2 this season. If the Sox can get the ball in closer Matt Barnes’ hands he will shut this one down with his 0.67 WHIP.

So the way I see this one, the teams trade punches scoring early runs by the 5th and knocking out the starters and eventually Boston’s bullpen gets the team another road win. I pick the Red Sox to win.

Mac hails from Kenosha, WI, and at age 11 was hooked into the universe of sports betting by correcting the local newspapers' weekly football pool. In the wild, Mac can be found playing catch with his kid, golfing, or watching sports like baseball, the PGA Tour, the NBA, MMA, or any other sport (most likely with a beer in hand). While Mac is officially a Green Bay Packers stockholder, he takes no responsibility for the Packer's recent playoff failures. A copywriter for 9 years, Mac is thrilled to provide his predictions and insights for usalegalbetting.com. Once asked if he could choose to have a beer with any athlete in history, living or dead he answered, "I'd definitely choose someone living."
