White Sox vs Yankees Week 8
White Sox vs Yankees MLB betting predictions

The Yankees at 24-19 as of Thursday are in 4th in the AL East while the White Sox (at just 2 wins better, 26-16) are in first in the AL Central. The Sox LHP Carlos Rodon (5-1) is well rested with only 6 starts on the year and will take on the Yankees Jordan Montgomery (2-1). I think the Sox Manager Tony La Russa is making the right moves this season, and I think the Sox win this game Friday in New York. I pick the Sox to win.

White Sox vs Yankees betting odds

Carlos Rodon the White Sox lefty who threw a no hitter on April 14 vs Cleveland pitches Friday against N.Y. More on him in a few sentences.

First, let’s talk no hitters. The Yankees staff has a no-no this year, on Wednesday Corey Kluber blanked the Rangers on the road. It is the 6th no hitter this year and the 2nd in 2 days following the Tiger’s Spencer Turnbull throwing one Tuesday vs the Mariners. (MLB averages 2.13 no hitters per year). Why so many lately in MLB? Because there is such a focus on home runs, and power production and with players actually being told to swing harder at such and such an angle, more no hitters are inevitable. Batting averages are tracking to be the lowest in MLB history and so this upwards trend of no hitters will continue. It’s just the way the game is trending. I’d set the over under for no hitters this season at 11.5. So, I wrote this to point out that paying attention to trends matters to those who are betting with legal sports betting sites.

Onto the White Sox at Yankees and Carlos Rodon. The Sox lefty has a 5-1 record and has the best ERA of active pitchers in MLB at 1.47 (the Mets Jacob deGrom is on IR). Although with only 6 starts and 36 ⅔ innings pitched in ‘21 Rodon doesn’t qualify yet in the league’s official rankings. Still he has been outstanding for La Russa and Chicago. He is 3-0 on the road this season and has a 0.56 road ERA. Rodon should last about 6 innings when the Sox bullpen will come into play. La Russa’s pen is middle of the MLB pack with a 3.87 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. This game could be a save opportunity for Sox closer Liam Hendriks who in 11 save chances has 9 saves on the year with a 2.50 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

At the plate the Sox are 2nd in the league in OBP at .347 and 3rd in average at .260 and runs with 222 in ‘21. Catcher Yemen Mercedes leads all MLB with a .358 average, and leads the Sox with 49 hits and a .407 OBP. Jose Abreu has 8 HR and 33 RBI for the White Sox.

The Yankees send Jordan Montgomery to the mound to face Chicago. Montgomery has a 2-1 record, a 4.75 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. At home he is 1-1 this season with a 3.50 ERA. Aaron Boone has been pulling Montgomery right around 5 innings and going to the bullpen which has the best WHIP in MLB at 1.03 and the 3rd best ERA at 2.85.

Yankees hitters are taking advantage of the short porch in right at Yankee Stadium and are 6th in MLB with 56 HR and 10th in MLB with a .318 OBP. Monster slugger 1B Aaron Judge leads the Bronx Bombers with a .294 BA, 12 HR, and a .392 OBP. DH Gio Stanton leads the Yankees with 24 RBI.

This is a game I’m looking forward to watching. Rodon should be able to keep the Yankees at bay long enough for the Sox to grab an early lead against Montgomery and I think the Sox Hendriks will have a save opportunity. Take the White Sox to win.

Mac hails from Kenosha, WI, and at age 11 was hooked into the universe of sports betting by correcting the local newspapers' weekly football pool. In the wild, Mac can be found playing catch with his kid, golfing, or watching sports like baseball, the PGA Tour, the NBA, MMA, or any other sport (most likely with a beer in hand). While Mac is officially a Green Bay Packers stockholder, he takes no responsibility for the Packer's recent playoff failures. A copywriter for 9 years, Mac is thrilled to provide his predictions and insights for usalegalbetting.com. Once asked if he could choose to have a beer with any athlete in history, living or dead he answered, "I'd definitely choose someone living."
