Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Lakers Betting Predictions

Nets vs Lakers NBA
Brooklyn vs. Los Angeles, NBA Betting Predictions, April 10

The Brooklyn Nets end their homestand Saturday against the injury-riddled Los Angeles Lakers at the Barclays Center. The Nets have won eight of their last 10 games overall, but they have won nine straight at home. Meanwhile, the Lakers are struggling without Anthony Davis and LeBron James due to injury and playing the clear favorite in the Eastern Conference isn’t going to end well for the group. Brooklyn should win this game easily against the shorthanded Los Angeles roster.

Nets vs. Lakers Betting Odds

I wouldn’t write off these two teams meeting this summer in the NBA Finals, but as for Saturday’s game, it’s a no-contest. The Brooklyn Nets are the clear favorites in the Eastern Conference as they have surged to the top of the conference even though Philadelphia is hot on their heels. With the return of Kevin Durant from injury, Brooklyn is back to having two of its three superstar guards, which is much better than what the Los Angeles Lakers are dealing with at the moment. Having both Anthony Davis and LeBron James out of the lineup due to injury has crippled the Lakers’ chances of a high playoff seed, and though this roster is competing, they don’t have the talent to match up with Brooklyn.

Durant was limited in his return to the court on Wednesday, but he was very effective when he did play. In 19 minutes, Durant made all five of his shots, scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and the Nets outscored New Orleans by 22 points. If that is a Durant performance after he missed basically two months due to injury, he’ll only be better now that he’s back in a rhythm. It helps that Kyrie Irving has been the only superstar on the court for most of April. In the three games prior to Durant’s return, Irving averaged 26.3 points and 10 assists per game, including dishing 15 assists in a loss at Chicago only to come back and drop 40 points on the Knicks the next night. The Nets’ depth has stepped up and made Irving’s job easier, which has also helped make Brooklyn a championship contender.

The same cannot be said about this version of the Lakers, that looks at time like a rudderless ship without Davis or James on the court. Los Angeles is a modest 4-6 since James’ injury, but they are only scoring 101 points per game while allowing almost 105 per contest. The Lakers have had to rely on its defense to win, which is not a great sign against a team like Brooklyn that can score the ball at will. Los Angeles simply doesn’t have the firepower to outscore Brooklyn without Davis or James and the Nets have scored at least 110 points in 11 of their last 13 games. The Lakers have hit that mark just three times since James’ injury, which is one fewer time than they have been held to less than 100 points.

There really isn’t much value in betting on the spread for this game because you need to bank on it being a blowout to earn any type of significant return at the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey. Instead, we focus on some of the other wagers offered on the NBA betting sites in New Jersey. Looking at the point total, the over/under is set at 222.5 points, but I don’t know if we will see such a high-scoring game. As good as the Nets are offensively, I think they could easily end up under 120 points and I can’t see the Lakers scoring more than 100 in this one. I’ll bet under 216.5 points for +153 odds for my first prediction on this game. I also took a peek at the player-specific bets at the basketball betting sites in New Jersey, and focused on a pair of Nets. I think Kyrie Irving is going to have a big game passing the ball, so I’ll bet Irving to have at least nine assists in a Nets win for +255 odds. Then I’ll continue to bet on Joe Harris to be a key rebounder by grabbing at least six boards for a fourth straight game at +285 odds.

My Prediction

Brooklyn -10 Points

The Lakers are finding ways to win games against inferior opponents without Anthony Davis and LeBron James, but Brooklyn is too good for this Los Angeles squad. Even with just two of their big three stars, the Nets should be able to run away with this game with their superior talent and confidence. Brooklyn is clearly the best team in the Eastern Conference and this version of the Lakers wouldn’t make the playoffs if they had to play a full season.
