Brooklyn Nets vs. Los Angeles Clippers Betting Predictions

Nets vs Clippers NBA
Brooklyn vs. Los Angeles, NBA Betting Predictions, February 2

The Los Angeles Clippers are on a roll as they reach the tail end of their Eastern Conference swing with a visit to the Brooklyn Nets. Everything seems to be clicking for the Clippers over the last three weeks as they have won 10 of 11 while the Nets are scoring at a high pace but not defending. It’ll be tough for Brooklyn to score on Los Angeles, so I’m all in on the Clippers.

Nets vs. Clippers Betting Odds

The Los Angeles Clippers have won 10 of their last 11 games to surge into the best record in the NBA at 16-5. They have done much of the recent damage on the road as Tuesday’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets is the fifth game of a six-game road trip for the Clippers through the Eastern Conference. The Nets are coming off a heartbreaking loss in Washington on Sunday, which snapped a four-game winning streak.

The story of the Nets’ season this year is the trade three weeks ago for James Harden that has created a potential superteam in the Eastern Conference. He has played eight of the nine games since the trade and is averaging 24.3 points, 11.8 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game in a Brooklyn jersey. He joins forces with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, both of whom are averaging more than 27 points per game this year. However, Durant is averaging 32.9 points per game in seven games since the trade while Irving is averaging 28 points per game in the last seven games.

On the other coast, the Clippers are cruising right along behind the duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. The pair are the only two Clippers players averaging more than 12.5 points per game, but the supporting cast has been excellent at finding their roles and excelling in the details. Everyone is buying into coach Ty Lue’s philosophy and it is paying off for the Clippers, who are still seeking vengeance from the way their season ended in the bubble. That team first basketball is a major reason for Los Angeles’ success compared to other teams that have been fluctuating while adjusting to the compact schedule.

It seems utterly ridiculous for the Nets to be favored in this game, yet somehow the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey have made Brooklyn a 1.5-point favorite. I understand the Nets are at home and they have three superstars, but the lack of defense is a giant concern for this team. Brooklyn leads the league in scoring at 122.2 points per game, but it ranks 27th in defense by allowing 117.7 points per game. In the nine games since acquiring James Harden, the Nets are allowing 124.5 points per game, an average helped by the 85 points it held Miami to on Jan. 25. If you eliminate the win over the Heat, the Nets are scoring 131 points since the Harden trade and allowing 129.5 points per game. That is simply unsustainable.

It is particularly hard to sustain against the Clippers, who rank fourth in the NBA in points allowed per game and seventh in points per game. The Knicks scoring 115 points on Sunday against Los Angeles was the first time in nine games that the Clippers allowed more than 110 points in a game. Los Angeles has scored at least 115 points seven times during this recent 11-game stretch and allowed 115 points just twice. I’m not willing to put any money on the Nets to win at the basketball betting sites in New Jersey. And quite frankly, I think the Clippers might win this game by six or seven points, which will only add to the value at the NBA betting sites in New Jersey. But we’ll just stay safe and bet the Clippers to win on the moneyline at -102 odds.
