Brooklyn Nets vs. Charlotte Hornets Betting Predictions

Nets vs Hornets NBA
Brooklyn vs. Charlotte, NBA Betting Predictions, April 1

The Brooklyn Nets have dealt with plenty of injuries and lineup fluctuations, but they have continued to win games. The Charlotte Hornets have impressive in their own right over the last week and a half to set up a tantalizing matchup in Brooklyn. However, it is hard to go against the Nets right now, no matter who is in or out of the lineup.

Nets vs. Hornets Betting Odds

On paper, Thursday’s game between the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets has plenty of intrigue. The Hornets have won four of their last five games and have continued to play well despite losing LaMelo Ball for an extended period of time with a wrist injury. The Nets, on the other hand, haven’t had Kevin Durant in the lineup for more than a month and James Harden and Kyrie Irving seem to alternate being in and out of the lineup for the Nets. So no matter who is in the lineup, Brooklyn continues to win with nine victories in 11 games since the All-Star break.

The Nets will likely be without Harden for Thursday’s game after he left Wednesday’s win with a hamstring injury. However, we have seen several different players step up in the absence of one of Brooklyn’s Big 3 previously. Wednesday, it was Joe Harris dropping 28 points in the victory, but Jeff Green had his moments recently. The wild cards in this situation are LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin, who probably aren’t good enough anymore to be stars, but add toughness and an inside presence to the lineup. Both players have the ability to carry a team for a game or two, and they should be able to have success against the worst 2-point field-goal defense in the NBA.

Charlotte’s other issue in this game is how many 3-point attempts they allow per game. The Hornets allow the second-most 3-point attempts and the third-most 3s in the league, which is not a great stat to have against the free-shooting Nets. Even though Charlotte has the ninth-best 3-point percentage defense, it is dangerous to allow Brooklyn’s fourth-ranked 3-point offense to take that many 3-pointers. The key for the Hornets is being able to use Gordon Hayward (19.9 points per game) and Terry Rozier (20.7 point per game) to carve up a suspect Nets defense, even though Ball’s absence takes a lot away from the Charlotte offense.

The issue with betting on this game at the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey is the uncertainty around the Nets lineup. The last time Brooklyn played without any of their Big 3 on the floor, Utah ran the Nets out of the gym by 30 points. It is entirely possible Brooklyn chooses to rest Irving on the second night of a back-to-back, especially given Durant and Harden are both injured. As it currently stands, Brooklyn is three-point favorites at the basketball betting sites in New Jersey and that makes sense if Irving is in the lineup. If Brooklyn does decide to rest Irving, I wouldn’t be scared to bet the Hornets laying 9.5 points at +420 odds at the NBA betting sites in New Jersey. However, if Irving does play, I would take the Nets laying 5.5 points for +126 odds.

My Prediction

Brooklyn -3 points

Every time I have doubted the Nets this season, Brooklyn has continued to exceed expectations. The Nets are 9-2 since the All-Star break with Kevin Durant and James Harden in and out of the lineup. Charlotte is a decent team, but it’s not good enough for the Hornets to upset the Nets.
