Brooklyn Nets vs. Dallas Mavericks Betting Predictions

Nets vs Mavericks NBA
Brooklyn vs. Dallas, NBA Betting Predictions, February 27

The Brooklyn Nets look to extend their unbeaten run to nine in a row on Saturday when they host the Dallas Mavericks. Even without Kevin Durant, the Nets have found their groove on both ends of the floor, something the Mavericks have also started to discover as winners of six of their last eight games. But Brooklyn is on another level right now that should keep their streak alive.

Nets vs. Mavericks Betting Odds

Two teams on a hot streak meet in Brooklyn on Saturday night as the Brooklyn Nets host the Dallas Mavericks. The Nets have won eight in a row to solidify themselves as a contender in the Eastern Conference while the Mavericks have won six of their last eight games to inch closer to the playoffs in the Western Conference.

It is impossible to talk about the Nets without discussing their explosive offense. Brooklyn leads the league in field goal percentage at just over 50 percent and ranks second in 3-point field goal percentage at nearly 41 percent efficiency. It also leads the NBA in points with more than 121 per game, and the Nets are maintaining this average despite not having Kevin Durant, who has missed the last six games with a hamstring injury. Kyrie Irving is averaging more than 27 points per game and James Harden is at nearly 25 points per game to lead Brooklyn in Durant’s absence.

The issue for Brooklyn had always been its defense, but the Nets have clamped down on that end of the floor during this eight-game winning streak. In those eight games, Brooklyn has allowed just 109.5 points per game, almost nine points fewer than the 26 games of the season. It dropped their season average more than two points, though that still ranks as third-worst in the league. If Dallas is going to take advantage, it will need Kristaps Porzingis healthy after he missed Thursday’s loss in Philadelphia. Porzingis and Luka Doncic create a dynamic duo of their own for Dallas, as both are averaging more than 20 points per game. Still, the Mavericks rank in the middle of the pack in most key offensive statistics, which doesn’t bode well for this road trip.

The legal sports betting sites in New Jersey have established Brooklyn as the 2.5-point favorites in this game, which I think is a bit low. Dallas is on the road and not nearly the same offensive threat as Brooklyn, which has won eight straight games and is averaging 122.4 points per game in those victories. To think the Mavericks can reach that total, especially with a Porzingis not at 100 percent is a stretch. I don’t think it will be a blowout by any stretch, so I’m going to keep it safe and take the +185 odds from the basketball betting sites in New Jersey and bet on the Nets to win by single digits.

Where the wagers get interesting is when we look at the props on Harden from the NBA betting sites in New Jersey. You can get +220 odds on Harden to be the game’s leading scorer, which is a bet I am high on for this game. Granted his role in Brooklyn is different than it was in Houston, but Harden has scored at least 30 points in five of his last six games against the Mavericks, all with the Rockets. It’s also a main reason why I’m betting on Harden to score at least 30 points in a Brooklyn win, which is at odds of +290 at the sportsbooks. To complete my look at the player props, I’m going to add a longshot of +560 odds on Kyrie Irving to have at least eight assists in a Nets victory. Irving has hit the mark in two of his last three games and had seven helpers in the other contest. I expect he’ll again be a distributor for the Nets as they run their winning streak to nine.

My Prediction

Brooklyn -2.5 points

What has really stood out during this recent winning streak is how well Brooklyn is playing on defense. The Nets offense is obviously prolific, but the defense has taken many steps forward. Dallas doesn’t have the firepower to match Brooklyn’s offense and the Mavericks’ defense won’t do enough to contain the Nets.
