Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors Betting Predictions

Nuggets vs Warriors NBA
Denver vs. Golden State, NBA Betting Predictions, January 14

It will be an interesting matchup in Denver as the struggling Denver Nuggets host the Golden State Warriors. Denver played in the Western Conference Finals last season, but has struggled to start this season. The Warriors are not the same menace they were in the past, but have still shown to be a dangerous team this season. This might be their first road game of 2021, but Golden State has the talent to earn the victory.

Nuggets vs. Warriors Betting Odds

It didn’t take long for the Golden State Warriors to see how much of an effect Steph Curry has on the team. The sharpshooter missed most of last season with an injury and the Warriors suffered greatly. Even without Klay Thompson, Curry has showcased his magic to the world this season in leading Golden State to a winning record through 11 games. He’s averaging nearly 28 points per game in his return to the lineup and he’s already dropped 62 in a game this season. He’s had some off days like when he shot 2-of-17 in a win over Toronto, but when he’s dialed in, he is almost impossible to stop.

What has benefitted Curry and the Warriors greatly, though, is some of the standout play around him this season. Andrew Wiggins is averaging almost 18 points per game and shooting a career best 39 percent from 3-point range in Thompson’s absence. First-round pick James Wiseman is showing the potential Golden State saw in him when they made him the second overall pick in October’s draft and he’s become a factor inside for Golden State at times this season. Those are the little things that add up to wins in a season as chaotic as the one unfolding right now.

The Warriors, though, are struggling to find cohesion on defense, which is a problem with the Denver Nuggets looming on Thursday. The Nuggets rank fifth in the NBA by averaging 116.5 points per game and they have a plethora of scoring options. The most dangerous is Nikola Jokic, whose ability to shoot from the perimeter is a mismatch without taking into account that he’ll likely be guarded by Wiseman, a rookie. We saw in the playoffs last year how dangerous Jamal Murray can be if he gets going, and he’s averaging just shy of 20 points per game this season.

The challenge for Denver is its defense as the Nuggets rank slightly better than Golden State on that end of the floor. Denver ranks 23rd in scoring defense at 113.6 points per game, almost two full points better than Golden State in 26th position out of 30 teams. However, Golden State is slightly more efficient on that end of the floor than Denver. So this early-season contest seemingly boils down to which defense is going to play better. Either way, I would expect both teams to reach over 110 points in this game.

Which is why for this game, I’m looking at which team has the better offensive weapon when making my bets at the basketball betting sites in New Jersey. Curry is the best shooter in the game right now and I’m not sure Denver has the ability to stop him. The Nuggets have their own high-volume shooters who can score but they pale in comparison to Curry. If I could, I would bet on Curry to score at least 30 points in this game. Instead, I’m going to say that he keeps it close, so I’ll bet on Golden State plus 5.5 points and over 230.5 total points in the game for +260 odds at the NBA betting sites in New Jersey. I’m tempted to even take Golden State on the moneyline at +172 odds, but that seems a bit too risky for my NBA predictions given how good the odds were for my original bet.

My Prediction

Golden State +5
