Phoenix Suns vs. Utah Jazz Betting Predictions

Suns vs Jazz NBA
Phoenix vs. Utah, NBA Betting Predictions, April 7

The Phoenix Suns welcome the Utah Jazz to Phoenix on Wednesday for a matchup of the top-two seeds in the Western Conference at the moment. Both teams have won nine of their last 10 games, though in Utah’s case, it’s because it had its nine-game winning streak snapped last time out. The Suns have won six straight entering Wednesday’s game, and that homecourt advantage might be enough to run that streak to seven.

Suns vs. Jazz Betting Odds

The Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz met once before this season, but that was all the way back on New Year’s Eve, so it’s easier to discount Phoenix’s road win. Both of these teams are playing some of the best basketball of the season entering Wednesday’s game and have entrenched themselves as the two best teams in the Western Conference so far this season. It will be a fascinating matchup between the Suns, who have the second-best two-point field-goal percentage in the league, and the Jazz, who lead the NBA in two-point field goal percentage defense. Equally as intriguing is the fact Utah attempts the most 3-pointers in the league and Phoenix ranks fourth in 3-point percentage defense this year.

Devin Booker has certainly become a star for the Suns after an incredible close to last season in the Orlando bubble. Booker is averaging nearly 26 points per game and is shooting nearly 50 percent from the field this year. However, a lot of that growth this season has come from veteran Chris Paul, who not only ranks second on the team in scoring at 16 points per game, but also is dishing out almost nine assists per contest. That combined with the addition of Jae Crowder and development of Deandre Ayton has helped push Phoenix to second place in the Western Conference. The Suns are shooting 56.2 percent from two-point range this season and are shooting 49 percent overall, which is the second-best percentage in the NBA.

However, the Jazz excel at defending the paint with Rudy Gobert and are keeping opponents under 50 percent shooting inside the arc. Where Utah excels is behind the 3-point arc where the Jazz are taking 43 shots per night and making 39.5 percent of those attempts. It’s not just Donovan Mitchell and his 25.4 points per game, either, doing the damage from distance. Mike Conley is making 42 percent of his 3-pointers and Joe Ingles is at an even 50 percent with both shooting at least five 3-pointers per game over at least 40 games played this year. Gobert is cleaning up misses with 14 rebounds per game, a tall task for Ayton, who is averaging roughly 11 boards per game, more than double anyone else on the Suns roster.

Utah is a slim two-point favorite at the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey, and it’s hard to blame the sportsbooks for making the Jazz the favorite. However, the Suns defend the 3-point line well, so I’m leaning toward picking them at the NBA betting sites in New Jersey. The Jazz are also among the best in the league at defending the 3-point arc, so I would expect more from Booker to try and get some penetration into the paint. If Booker or Paul can draw defenders and continue to be diligent about hitting the open man, I think the Suns can have some success against this Utah defense. The Jazz haven’t shown much in the way of scoring inside the arc, which I think will hurt them in this matchup. I’ll bet Phoenix laying 3.5 points at home at +155 odds at the basketball betting sites in New Jersey.

My Prediction

Phoenix Moneyline

Flip a coin in this game and you’re just as likely to be correct as I am about this outcome. Both teams have been playing extremely well and they are the clear-cut top-two teams in the Western Conference at the moment. It’s going to be an exciting basketball game, but I went with the Suns because they are at home and won the first matchup this season with Utah.
