Arkansas vs Baylor Betting Predictions NCAA Tournament

Baylor vs Arkansas Elite 8
Arkansas (3) vs Baylor (1), betting predictions, NCAA Basketball

In Sweet 16 matchups both Arkansas and Baylor were abysmal from behind the arc. But they both stepped up the ‘D’ when it counted most down the stretch to advance. Coaches Eric Musselman and Bryce Drew will try the same as Arkansas battles Baylor. March Madness marches on. I see Bayor advancing in a defensive struggle against Arkansas.

Arkansas vs Baylor Betting Odds

NCAA March Madness play is often about trends and both Arkansas and Baylor have been trending in similar ways. Each team struggled from beyond the 3 point arc in their last games in the Sweet 16 round and both teams stepped up their defensive efforts which helped them advance.

Whatever coach Bryce Drew told his Baylor Bears at the half – it worked. Down 7 in the first half against 5 seed Villanova, Baylor locked down on defense outscoring the Wildcats 39-21 in the final 20 minutes and cruising to an 11 point win. The Bears hardly allowed the Villanova offense an inch and the Wildcats didn’t hit a single three in the second half going 0-9 from beyond the arc. Baylor forced 16 turnovers against Villanova who averaged fewer than 9 this season. Baylor Junior guard Davion Mitchell was the only Bears starter in double digit scoring with 14. Baylor was led by sophomore guard Adam Flagler with 16 who managed to hit 2 of the team’s only 3 three-pointers against Villanova.

Arkansas seemed to use the same recipe in its Sweet 16 round win over Cinderella 15 seed Oral Roberts. The Razorbacks were in a 12 point hole before turning things around when they stopped allowing easy lay-ups to Oral Roberts and clawed their way to a 2 point win behind 22 points from Senior Guard Jalen Tate. Like Baylor vs Villanova, the Razorbacks shot terribly from beyond the three point arc making just one of 11 three-point shots. Instead the Razorbacks relied on defense and rebounds getting a game high 14 boards from 6’8” senior forward Justin Smith.

You can’t control shooting slumps but you can control effort and look for Baylor and Arkansas to give similar effort in the round of 8 Monday night. The chaos Baylor caused against Villanova was impressive as were the defensive adjustments Arkansas made against Oral Roberts. One trend is that Baylor has covered in its last 2 NCAA contests against Villanova and Wisconsin but if you’re betting on March Madness I’d stay away from the spread – hard to figure since I expect a struggle from the offenses in this one 888sports has Baylor -7.5 and yet that seems like a real coin flip to me. Meanwhile, Arkansas has squeaked out consecutive two point wins against 6 seeded Texas Tech and last night’s 72-70 win against Oral Roberts.

So what do I like? In this one I like the tough trending defenses and so I like the 888sports under at 149 points.

My Prediction

Take the under 149 (888sport) in what promises to be a classic defensive battle between teams who are struggling from outside.

Mac hails from Kenosha, WI, and at age 11 was hooked into the universe of sports betting by correcting the local newspapers' weekly football pool. In the wild, Mac can be found playing catch with his kid, golfing, or watching sports like baseball, the PGA Tour, the NBA, MMA, or any other sport (most likely with a beer in hand). While Mac is officially a Green Bay Packers stockholder, he takes no responsibility for the Packer's recent playoff failures. A copywriter for 9 years, Mac is thrilled to provide his predictions and insights for usalegalbetting.com. Once asked if he could choose to have a beer with any athlete in history, living or dead he answered, "I'd definitely choose someone living."
