Baylor vs. Wisconsin Betting Predictions

NCAAB March Madness Baylor vs Wisconsin
Baylor vs. Wisconsin Betting Odds

No. 9 seed Wisconsin (18-12) takes on No. 1 seed Baylor (23-2) Sunday for a trip to the Sweet 16. Wisconsin is an impressive, experienced team that had no trouble with North Carolina in their Round One win, but Baylor is the better team with some great 3-point shooters and strong defenders. I expect the Bears to win a close game.

Baylor vs. Wisconsin Betting Odds

Wisconsin made 13 3s enroute to an 85-62 win over North Carolina Friday to advance. They are shooting 48 percent from 3 in their last three games. They appear to be getting hot at the right time; the Badgers went 2-6 in their last eight games before their first round victory over the Tar Heels.

Wisconsin has five seniors with a lot of tournament experience (appearances in 2017 and 2019) and all make big offensive contributions. Nate Reuvers, Brad Davison, Micah Potter, Aleem Ford and D’Mitrik Trice are responsible for 76 percent of the team’s points this season. Trice leads the team in points (13.9) and assists (4.0), and Potter is shooting 50.6% from the field.

Baylor opened their season with 18 straight wins and defeated Hartford 79-55 Friday for their fifth win in six games. The Bears suffocated the Hawks on defense, forcing 24 turnovers and holding the No. 16 seed team to 24 percent shooting from the field.

Following their hot start to the season, Baylor had a tough February. Six of their nine games were canceled or postponed that month due to COVD-19 protocols. They returned to play on 3/2 and lost to Kansas, ending their shot at an undefeated season. They rebounded though and won four of five games to close out the year.

The Bears have a lot of offensive weapons that Wisconsin will have a tough time stopping. Guard Jared Butler is averaging a team-leading 17 points per game this season and is shooting 49.2 percent from 3. MaCio Teague (16.4 PPG) Davion Mitchell (14 PPG) (45.6% 3-PT shooting) and Adam Flagler (8 PPG) round out a guard heavy lineup that also plays tough defense. Baylor is holding opponents to 66 PPG this season while putting up 84.2 PPG on the offensive end.

The legal sports betting sites in New Jersey have Baylor as 6.5-point favorites. If you don’t feel comfortable with that spread, there are more player-specific bets coming in as the tournament progresses. Jared Butler Over 24.0 at -112 odds (Sugar House), Jared Butler Over 17.5 points at -112 odds (FanDuel) and Jared Butler Over 2.5 three’s made at +116 odds (FanDuel) are good bets considering his offensive consistency this season.

I’m comfortable taking Baylor -6 on -110 odds (888Sport). Baylor is a more consistent team; they won 18 straight at one point this season and are 7-2 against ranked opponents. As tough as Wisconsin is, the Bears can handle whatever the Badgers throw at them and their defense will cool off Wisconsin’s hot shooting.

My Prediction

Baylor -6.5 Points
Wisconsin has a vetertan squad with a lot of tournament experience, but Baylor is just too strong. The Bears gets it done with their guards and advance to the Sweet 16.
