Gonzaga vs. Oklahoma Betting Predictions NCAA Basketball

No. 8 seed Oklahoma takes on No. 1 seed Gonzaga Monday for a chance to reach the Sweet 16. Oklahoma played tough against Missouri on Saturday, but they don’t have enough offensive power to get by the undefeated Zags.

Gonzaga vs. Oklahoma Betting Odds

Oklahoma (16-10) ended its season losing five of six, but beat Missouri 72-68 on Saturday in a game that saw nine lead changes. The Sooners got 20 points from guard Austin Reaves and shot 46.7 percent from 3, despite missing second-leading scorer De’Vion Harmon. Harmon tested positive for COVID-19 upon the team’s arrival in Indianapolis, and will be out for Monday’s contest as well.

Austin Reaves leads the team in scoring (17.9 PPG) and assists (4.8). The Sooners will miss De’vion Harmon, their most accurate shooter at 48.7 percent on 12.9 points per game. Forward Brady Manek had 15 points on 3s in the win and is averaging 11 points per game this season.

The Sooners gave up 11 3s to Missouri and the Tigers outrebounded them 36-32. Oklahoma will have to have a much stronger defensive performance if they hope to get by Gonazaga on Monday.

Gonzaga (27-0) had no trouble getting past Norfolk State on Saturday, beating the Spartans 78-55. The Zags’ star forward Cory Kispert shot six of nine from 3 and finished with 23 points, while Anton Watson scored 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting. Gonzaga held Norfolk State to 30.6 percent shooting from the field.

Making their 23rd tournament appearance, Gonzaga finished 26-0 this season and have won 31 straight dating back to last year. Their last loss was on February 22, 2020. They are trying to become the first team since Indiana in 1976 to win the tournament with a perfect record.

The Zags are simply too talented to stop. Kispert, a First-Team All-American, leads the team in scoring (19.2 PPG) and is shooting 45.6% from 3. His surrounding cast of offensive weapons, including guard Joel Ayai (11.9 PPG) (39.5% from 3), forward Drew Timme (18.4 PPG on 65.1% shooting), and guard Jalen Suggs (14.0 PPG on 34.1% 3-point shooting and a team-leading 4.4 assists per game) will give the Oklahoma defense fits.

If the Sooners dare to double team the 6’10’’ Timme, he can simply kick the ball out to Kispert or any of the other deep threats the Bulldogs will have on the floor. The Zags are averaging 92.2 points per game this season, and save for an 87-82 victory over West Virginia in December, won by double digits against every opponent.

The legal sports betting sites in New Jersey have Gonzaga as 14.5-point favorites. Considering all of their of double digit wins this season, I think the Zags at -14.5 at -113 odds (888Sport) is a good bet.

There are player specials at all the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey, for this game, including Corey Kispert over 17.0 at -112 odds (FanDuel). I think this is a smart bet considering how hot the senior forward has been recently.

I’m also looking at a game-specific bet of Gonzaga total points over 84.5 at -107 odds (Sugar House) We already know the Zags can score, but I especially like this one considering the Bulldogs have scored 90 or more points in seven of their last eight games.

My Prediction

Gonzaga -14.5 Points
The Sooners were inconsistent this season, but do have some wins against quality opponents, including Alabama, Kansas and Texas. They’ll need to rediscover the energy that carried them over those teams to beat the Zags, but I just don’t think they match up. Gonzaga gets the win and heads to the Sweet 16.
