Gonzaga vs. UCLA Betting Predictions

Gonzaga vs UCLA Final Four
Gonzaga vs. UCLA Betting Predictions NCAA Basketball

No. 11 seed UCLA takes on No. 1 seed Gonzaga. The Bruins have stayed alive in an amazing tournament run that has included takedowns of some great teams like Alalbama and Michigan. But they don’t have enough to get past the best team in the country.

UCLA vs. Gonzaga Betting Odds

UCLA just keeps winning. The Bruins continued their amazing tournament run on Monday, taking down No. 1 seed Michigan 51-49. The Bruins have beaten Michigan State, BYU, Abilene Christian, Alabama and now Michigan in their run that began in the First Four.

The Bruins’ offensive stat line Tuesday wasn’t pretty. UCLA shot 38.9 percent from the field and Cody Riley, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and James Bernard scored a total of 12 points between the four of them. Johnny Juzang bailed them out with a 28 point performance and the Bruins held Michigan’s 7’1’’ freshman center Hunter Dicksinson to 11 points in the win. Michigan made just 3-of-11 three point shots (27.3%), and UCLA became the second First Four team in tournament history to advance to the Final Four.

Everybody knows about UCLA’s guards at this point.

Johnny Juzang (15.5 PPG), Jamie Jaquez Jr. (12.1 PPG/6.1 RPG), Tyger Campbell (10.2 PPG/5.3 APG) and Jules Bernard (10.1 PPG/5.2 RPG) all give the Bruins numerous scoring options. Forward Cody Riley is averaging 9.8 points per game, while shooting a team-leading 54.1 percent from the field. To get past Gonzaga, they’ll all need to have a stronger offensive showing. Another game where Juzang accounts for most of the offense and the Bruins finish with 51 total points won’t cut it against the Bulldogs.

Gonzaga finished the regular season 26-0 and ranked No. 1. They beat USC 85-66 Tuesday to advance. Drew Timme led the Zags with 23 points in the win, while All-American forward Corey Kispert had 18 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Suggs came just short of a triple double, notching 18 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Gonzaga is trying to become the first team since Indiana in 1976 to win the tournament with a perfect record.

Like UCLA, the Zags have a familiar cast of characters, including Drew Timme and his now famous moustache celebration. The sophomore forward is shooting 65 percent from the field (19 PPG) while grabbing a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game. Kispert, a First-Team All-American, is averaging 18.9 points per game and shooting 45.3 percent from 3. Joel Ayai (11.8 PPG) (38.5% from 3) and Jalen Suggs (14.0 PPG/4.5 APG) round out a Zags offense that is averaging 91.6 points per game this season, good for No.1 amongst D1 schools.

Despite their success, the legal March Madness New Jersey sports betting sites are giving the Bruins no love. Gonzaga is a 14 point favorite, one of the largest spreads in Final Four history. I think Gonzaga will win this game, but a moneyline bet at -1250 odds (888Sport) won’t get you much. The question is, with the Bruins showing they can handle Alabama and Michigan, is it worth it to take UCLA +14? Surely they can keep the Zags from blowing them out or possibly even pull-off another upset.

It’s tempting, but Gonzaga has not beat an opponent in this year’s tournament by anything less than 16 points. Overall, they’ve outscored the opposition by 96 points this postseason, dispatching Norfolk State, Oklahoma, Creighton and USC. The Bulldogs have won 27 straight games by double-digits. I think the Gonzaga -14 at -113 odds (888Sport) is the way to go.

There are a lot of player-specific bets available for this game at the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey. I like Drew Timme Over 19.5 at -113 odds (888Sport and Sugar House). Timme is averaging 23.7 points per game for the tournament. Considering both teams have numerous scoring options and find ways to get to the basket, I also like the Over (145) at -110 odds (888Sport).
