Michigan vs. UCLA Betting Predictions

No. 11 UCLA looks to continue a miracle run against a Big-Ten powerhouse. I think Michigan ends the Bruins’ great run on Tuesday.

Michigan vs. UCLA Betting Odds

UCLA beat Alalbama 88-78 in OT on Sunday to earn their first trip to the Elite 8 since 2008. The Bruins got 17 points from Jules Bernard, 15 from David Singleton and Tyger Campbell and Johnny Juzang each had 13. Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 17 points and made two key 3-point shots in overtime to help seal the victory. Alabama’s Alex Reese hit a 3 to send the game into overtime, but otherwise the Bruins held the Crimson Tide to just 25 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The Bruins have wins over Michigan State, BYU, Abilene Christian and now Alabama in a run that began in the First Four. The Bruins lost their final four regular-season games and weren’t expected to go far in the tournament, but are now just the second team in NCAA tournament history to advance from the First Four to the Elite Eight.

The Bruins have a handful of quick guards who can shoot accurately and make plays for one another. Johnny Juzang, Jules Bernard, Jamie Jaquez Jr. and Tyger Campbell all enter Tuesday’s game with double-digit scoring averages.

Juzang leads the team in points 15 (PPG) and rebounds (6.1 RPG), while Campbell leads the team in assists (5.4 APG). Bernard is shooting 40.2 percent from 3, and Juzang enters Tuesday’s game averaging 20 points per game in tournament play. Forward Cody Riley had 10 points in UCLA’s Sunday win and is averaging 10 points per game this season while shooting a team-leading 54.7 percent from the field.

No. 1 seed Michigan had no trouble getting past Florida State 76-58 Sunday. Freshman Hunter Dickinson had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Franz Wagner had 10 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Michigan forced the Seminoles into 13 turnovers and held them to 5-for-20 (25%) shooting from 3. The Wolverines also won the battle on the glass, out rebounding FSU 37-31.

The 7’1 ’’ freshman Dickinson leads the Wolverines this season in scoring, with 14.2 points per game, while shooting 60.2 percent from the field. Forward Isaiah Livers (13.1 PPG) (6.0 RPG) is shooting 43 percent from 3, while Franz Wagner (12.6 PPG/ 6.5 RPG) is an additional scoring threat for the Wolverines.

The legal March Madness Sports betting sites in New Jersey have the Wolverines as 7 point favorites. The Wolverines are 19-8 ATS this season, while UCLA is 16-14. I want to give the Bruins credit. They’re playing great basketball right now, and have proven they can take down top teams, but I’m more comfortable going with Michigan -7 at -109 odds (Sugar House). The Wolverines have more offense, more size and the ability to out rebound the Bruins.

There are also plenty of player props available for this game at the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey. I like Hunter Dickinson Over 13.5 total points at -110 odds (Sugar House). The Freshman center is averaging 14 points per game for the tournament and should be able to get the edge inside against a smaller UCLA team.

My Prediction

Michigan -7 points

I think this will be a battle against two teams playing their best basketball right now, but ultimately the Wolverines take down the Pac-12 Cinderella Bruins and get the win.
