The NFC West is undisputedly the best division in football right now with three teams with five wins and the San Francisco 49ers with four victories. This is what makes this matchup so important for the 49ers as they try to keep in touch with the rest of the division that all have at least one fewer loss as well. The Seahawks are coming off a stunning defeat last week in Arizona while the 49ers have now won two straight after a lackluster start to the season. This game being in Seattle will make a big difference in the outcome. San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks Betting Odds San Francisco has always relied on a strong running game, but it was in overdrive last week against New England. The 49ers overcame a pair of Jimmy Garoppolo interceptions with nearly 200 rushing yards against the Patriots as San Francisco continues to have success on the ground no matter who is in the backfield. However, this week is a chance for Garoppolo to show off his arm against the Seahawks’ secondary that has struggled to stop anyone in the passing game. The 49ers are still banged up in the backfield with three running backs now on injured reserve leaving the 49ers with few options to hand off the ball. This will also be a test for the 49ers third-ranked passing defense against a passing offense that has been nearly unstoppable this season. San Francisco has allowed 200 yards passing just twice this season and Seattle has had at least 275 passing yards in five of its six games this season. For the first time all season, Russell Wilson looked human in the passing game last week against Arizona. Wilson threw for almost 400 yards and still tossed three touchdown passes, but he also threw three interceptions in the loss. One thing that certainly helped the Seahawks’ offense was the return of Carlos Hyde to the backfield as Seattle ran for 200 yards against the Cardinals and brought back a balanced offensive attack that will be vital this week against the 49ers. However, the Seattle defense is still a concern after Kyler Murray threw for 360 yards and the Cardinals were able to march down the field several times in the second half to answer Seattle’s scores. The Seahawks will need to be disciplined against a run-focused offense this week, but Seattle must also pay attention to George Kittle and find ways to slow him down and deny Garoppolo the chances to throw in the tight end’s direction. We’d normally be talking about defense when it comes to the 49ers and the Seahawks, but it’s all about the two offenses this week. The NFL betting sites in New Jersey set the over/under at 54 points, a high total given the recent matchups between these two teams. However, the Seahawks’ defense has really struggled this season and ranks last in terms of yards allowed and 23rd in points allowed. The 49ers are much better on defense, but have had their share of offensive struggles. This game pits strength against strength and weakness against weakness, so 54 points seems to be a bit excessive. However, the 49ers just put up 30 points against New England on the road and Seattle has put up a lot of points on good defenses at home. I’m going to hunt value here and take the over 54.5 points for +100 odds from the alternate total pool. Seahawks to win Seattle is a typical three-point favorite in this game, which basically boils this game down to a toss-up between two talented teams. Wilson had his fair share of struggles last week in Arizona and San Francisco will certainly challenge him in the passing game. The Seahawks defense is also very suspect, though Garoppolo hasn’t had the need to throw the ball much and when he has done so, it hasn’t led to the best results. The Seahawks have escaped close games before because they were at home and this feels like another one of those contests. I don’t know the margin of victory, though, so I’ll hedge my bets by wagering on both a 1-6-point Seattle win for +340 odds and a 7-12-point Seahawks win at +500 odds at the New Jersey online sports betting sites.
