The Kansas City Chiefs opened up their title defense with a win over Houston, but now must travel to Los Angeles to face their division rival, the Chargers. Los Angeles was fortunate to escape Cincinnati with a victory, and there are still a lot for the Chargers to iron out on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs are not the best opponent for that, so I expect Kansas City to win comfortably again as the Chargers figure out themselves. Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Betting Odds The Chargers did not play well against Cincinnati, but escaped with a victory thanks to some self-inflicted issues from the Bengals. Tyrod Taylor didn’t have a turnover, but he completed just over 50 percent of his passes and barely eclipsed 200 passing yards. Los Angeles’ running game was effective, but again wasn’t stellar either. Los Angeles’ biggest offensive concern might have been its performance in the red zone as the Chargers settled for two field goals inside the 10. Kansas City will need to be wary about the Chargers’ two edge rushers, but otherwise, there isn’t much for the Chiefs to fear about the Los Angeles defense. Joe Burrow in his first NFL start moved the ball decently well against the Chargers in the second half, but had some factors out of his control deny him that first NFL victory. The Chiefs are far more weapons than the Bengals, and that starts with a better running game that will challenge the Chargers. If Kansas City can protect Patrick Mahomes, he, too should be able to pick apart Los Angeles for easy points. The NFL betting sites in New Jersey have installed the Chiefs as an 8.5-point favorite, which seems a bit low for me. What also seemed a bit low for me was the 46.5 points, but then you do the math and realize that might be too high. The Chargers will almost assuredly score fewer than 18.5 points, so that’s one of my NFL betting predictions at -110 odds, and I think Kansas City won’t hit 40 points. So I’m going out on a limb and dropping the total points down to 42.5 and taking the under at +150 odds. Kansas City Chiefs to win The problem with Kansas City being big favorites is that it limits the amount of viable alternate spreads we can play on this game. We need to hike above two touchdowns to get some value, and that seems like too risky a proposition for a divisional game on the road. I’ll have to settle with Kansas City at the 8.5-point spread for -110 odds at the New Jersey online sports betting sites.
