Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Predictions

The Green Bay Packers needed a bounce-back game like they had last week against San Francisco, and another winnable game is on the docket. The Jacksonville Jaguars have struggled to close out games this season as their defense has leaked and the offense has gone stale. That’s a bad combination against a championship-caliber team like the Packers, who should win comfortably this week.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Odds

Jacksonville has lost seven straight NFL games since a surprising win in the opener against Indianapolis, and most of them have not been particularly close. Over the past two weeks, we’ve seen the Jaguars play tougher games against lower-quality opponents, but that type of confidence helps heading to Green Bay. D.J. Chark is the bright spot for Jacksonville this season as he has developed into a strong No. 1 receiver. However, James Robinson has been an added bonus as an undrafted rookie, giving the Jaguars two young offensive skill players to build around. The defense has been a mess and is allowing points on 53 percent of drives, a troubling trend for its matchup against the Packers.

Green Bay’s offense is the exact opposite of what a struggling defense wants to see on their schedule. The Packers lead the league with just three turnovers this season and Aaron Rodgers has looked like an MVP candidate throughout the season. There were some hiccups after the bye, but Rodgers and the offense looked in complete control last week against the 49ers with six scoring drives among their first eight. Aaron Jones has 10 more days to get healthier, adding yet another dimension to the Packers’ offense, and the defense is facing an offense that has a quarterback making his second career start. It’s the perfect recipe for a defense that needs some confidence for the latter part of the season.

The Jaguars have allowed 30 or more points in six of their eight games and rank second-to-last in scoring defense and total defense. It should be an easy matchup for the Packers’ juggernaut offense, so it would be too easy to take the over for Green Bay. Instead, I’m looking at the game as a whole and the fact I think the 52 points on the over/under at the NFL betting sites in New Jersey is a bit low. I think both teams will be able to score this week as the Jaguars showed some offensive spark last week with Jake Luton at quarterback. Given Green Bay’s defensive woes, I envision plenty of points being scored in this game. Therefore, I’ll raise the stakes and bet on the over 56.5 total points at +140 odds.

Packers to win

Green Bay is 13.5-point favorites in this game, and it makes me very nervous. I have no doubts about the Packers winning the game because Jacksonville has struggled to close out games it should win. However, the margin is of concern to me due to the Packers’ defense. It’s one thing for Green Bay to beat the injury-depleted 49ers last week by two touchdowns, but San Francisco was able to get things going through the air. Luton and Robinson both could exploit Green Bay’s weaknesses on defense and keep the scoreline within single digits even if the result is never in doubt. So despite my belief in the Packers to win outright, I’m betting the Jaguars plus 10.5 points at +115 odds at the New Jersey online sports betting sites.
