These are two teams going in the opposite direction of the standings, but still should be a fun matchup. The Pittsburgh Steelers are unbeaten this season and sit atop the AFC while the Jacksonville Jaguars have lost eight straight since a season-opening win. Pittsburgh is the better team on paper by a wide margin, but the Steelers have struggled on the road against poor teams while Jacksonville is coming off a near-upset of Green Bay last week. The Steelers should still win, but the Jaguars have the potential to make things interesting. Steelers vs. Jaguars Betting Odds The biggest question I have is which Pittsburgh team will we see show up in Jacksonville. Will it be the team that steamrolled the Bengals last week or the one that barely escaped Dallas the week before? The Steelers have gone away from running the football the past few weeks with three consecutive games with less than 50 yards rushing. That might change against the 25th-ranked rushing defense, but Jacksonville also ranks 30th against the pass. However, the Steelers choose to attack the Jaguars, they should be able to find success by winning the line of scrimmage. What I am more excited to see is how the Steelers will attack the Jaguars and their rookie quarterback. Pittsburgh ranks third in points allowed and sixth in yards allowed, and is facing an offense that picked up just 260 yards last week against a middling Packers defense. Jacksonville had every chance to beat Green Bay last week on the road despite being outgained by more than 130 yards. The Jaguars had timely plays from their defense and special teams to keep things interesting against the Packers, and they need that same energy against Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger isn’t going to make many mistakes in the passing game, but if the Jaguars are able to get some pressure on Roethlisberger, it will make a big difference. Jacksonville forced Green Bay into four three-and-outs and a four-and-out last week, and a similar performance this week against the Steelers is vital. The question is whether Jake Luton can limit turnovers against the defense that is forcing more turnovers than anyone else in the NFL. This is another one of those games where the over/under is tough to decipher from the NFL betting sites in New Jersey. The total is set at 47.5 points, which is probably close to the actual total in this game, so we’ll dive into the individual teams. The line for the Jaguars is set at 18 points, which is interesting for two reasons. Pittsburgh has held three of its last five opponents under 20 points and Jacksonville has hit that total in each of the last two weeks with Luton at quarterback. The Steelers, though, present the best defense Luton has faced in his short NFL career, and Pittsburgh should easily overwhelm him. Therefore, I’ll take the under 18 points on the Jaguars at -110 odds. As for the Steelers, that line is 29.5 points, which seems excessive for this team. Pittsburgh has eclipsed 28 points just once in the last four weeks – last week against Cincinnati – and the Steelers had trouble in Dallas against the Cowboys. The Jaguars put together an inspiring effort last week in Green Bay that should carry over into this week. It’ll be close, but I’ll take the under 29.5 for the Steelers as well for -108 odds. Steelers to win The Steelers open the week at 10-point favorites over the Jaguars, and that still seems a bit low it feels like. Pittsburgh is much better than Jacksonville on both sides of the ball, but equally as important is Pittsburgh’s ability to score a lot of points without gaining many yards. The Steelers rank fourth in points scored but just 24th in the NFL in yards gained per game. Roethlisberger has been fantastic through the air as Pittsburgh has sharply abandoned its rushing attack in recent weeks. I think this one could get out of hands quickly in Jacksonville, so I’ll pick the Steelers laying 16.5 points at +170 odds at the New Jersey online sports betting sites.
