Golden Knights vs. Coyotes: Free Picks, Odds & Predictions

Golden Knights vs Coyotes NHL
Vegas vs. Arizona, T-Mobile Arena

It’s been a rough week or so for the Vegas Golden Knights, who have lost four of their last five games heading into Friday’s game with the Arizona Coyotes. A normally strong offense has fallen silent for Vegas, which has scored two goals or fewer in all four of those losses while the defense has faltered as well. Arizona has won seven of its last 10 games and scored at least three goals in nine of those 10 contests, but it will be a stiff test against a hungry Vegas team. The Golden Knights’ skill should be able to win out as they play a little more desperation at home.

Free Picks

This whole line of bets is based on Vegas breaking out of its slump, so why not stick with that theme by picking Reilly Smith. Honestly, it’s shocking that the hockey betting sites in New Jersey are offering modest +200 odds on someone who has just one goal and one assist in his last 14 games. Yet, Smith had two goals against the Coyotes in the first meeting between the clubs all the way back in January, and that is a good chunk of his seven goals this season. There are far safer options on the board when it comes to picking a player to score a goal, but as the Golden Knights’ offense explodes, I expect a player like Smith to also get his offensive juices flowing.

REILLY SMITH SCORES GOAL

The Golden Knights have certainly been in a slump offensively over the last week or so with four games of two goals or fewer. The exception was a six-goal blowout of the Blues and I expect a similar performance when Vegas returns home Friday against the Coyotes. There is too much talent on the Vegas roster to have such mediocre offensive outputs, and that will change against Arizona despite the Coyotes’ recent run of good form. We will see a hungrier, more desperate Golden Knights team, and that makes me even happier with the +230 odds from the legal sports betting sites in New Jersey that Vegas will have an offensive explosion Friday night.

VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS OVER 4 GOALS

Even when they are struggling, the Golden Knights still have excellent goaltending and a strong defense to rely upon. With the expected uptick in offensive performance that I described above, I’m also going above and beyond on the puckline. I was a little disappointed in the +220 odds that Vegas wins by at least three goals, but that’s what you get when the NHL betting sites in New Jersey are just as confident in a bounce-back performance from the Golden Knights. Arizona has played well recently, and this wager is a major sign of disrespect, but Vegas believes itself to be a Stanley Cup contender, and it will need to play like one soon if the Golden Knights want to stay in the hunt for home-ice advantage. The motivated squad will come out and thoroughly defeat the Coyotes to prove themselves as contenders.

Statistics

Head to Head

This is the fifth meeting of the season between Vegas and Arizona after the Golden Knights won three of the first four contests between the teams.

Stats

  • Despite losing four of their last five games, the Vegas Golden Knights do lead the league in scoring defense by allowing just 2.26 goals per game this season and they have the best team save percentage in the NHL at .919.
  • It’s remarkable the Coyotes have won seven of their last 10 games considering they have been outshot, lost 53 percent of faceoffs and have a 47.9 Corsi percentage over that span.
  • Conor Garland holds a slim one-point lead over a three-way tie between Jakob Chychrun, Phil Kessel and Clayton Keller for the team lead in points. Garland has 30 points while the trio all have 29 points this season.
  • Mark Stone leads the Golden Knights with 41 points this season, but he has just 12 goals, six fewer than team leader Max Pacioretty. However, when Stone does score, they are important goals as he has scored a team-best seven game-winners this season.

Our Prediction for Vegas vs. Arizona

Vegas Golden Knights to win

Despite their recent struggles, it’s hard to bet against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday night at home against the Arizona Coyotes. Yes, the Coyotes have played much better hockey lately to earn themselves the fourth spot in the West Division, but they don’t have the same talent as Vegas. At some point, you have to believe the Golden Knights will return to being the dominant team they were earlier this season. I have faith that Vegas is super close to turning the corner and a home game against Arizona is the perfect chance for the Golden Knights to get back on track.
