Coyotes vs Golden Knights: Free Picks, Odds & Predictions

NHL Arizona Coyotes vs Vegas Golden Knights
Arizona vs. Vegas, Gila River Arena

The Vegas Golden Knights have lived up to the expectations and have throttled every team in their path so far this season. The offense has been electric and the goaltending tandem has held up well so far through four games. A road trip to Arizona to face the struggling Arizona Coyotes shouldn’t be a trouble after handling the Coyotes twice in Vegas already.

Free Picks

Mark Stone is leading the league with seven points and he’s scored two points in three of Vegas’ four games this far. He’s facing an Arizona team that is struggling defensively, especially without its top defenseman, and Vegas is a scoring machine at the moment. The +265 odds from the New Jersey online sports betting sites are a big help in this bet, but also the way Stone creates offense. He has two goals and five assists, so he’s more likely to be contributing by setting up his teammates than actually scoring himself. However, he does have a goal and two assists in the previous two meetings with Arizona. It’s a bold take, but a good way to start off some NHL predictions for this particular game.

MARK STONE 2+ POINTS

Only Montreal has scored more goals through four games than Vegas, which has tallied 16 goals, including nine in the last two against the Coyotes. Anaheim in the second game of the season was the only team to keep Vegas under four goals in a game, and Arizona’s chances at that took a hit with Oliver Ekman-Larsson on injured reserve. The Coyotes really don’t have a shutdown defensive pair or a great defensive line of forwards, which makes the task that much harder against Vegas. It is quite shocking that the Golden Knights only capitalized once on 12 power plays in the first two games of the season against Arizona, and that is a trend the Coyotes cannot try to continue on home ice. If Arizona is going to give Vegas power play chances Friday, the Golden Knights are going to get things clicking and bury them. The +225 odds on Vegas lighting the lamp at least four times seems advantageous, so I’ll jump on the bandwagon.

VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS OVER 4 GOALS

The NHL betting sites in New Jersey really upped the stakes by offering +300 odds on Vegas to win by at least three goals. The Golden Knights have the offensive capabilities to score a lot and their goaltending has been pretty solid. After Arizona took a 2-0 lead midway through the first game between these two in Las Vegas, the Golden Knights have outscored the Coyotes 9-2, including a stretch of seven straight goals that lasted more than 60 minutes of game time. Arizona is going to struggle to score if it cannot possess the puck and that was a common element over the last five periods these two teams played against each other. The odds are worth the risk as Vegas is clearly the better team and should be able to secure a second three-goal win against Arizona this season.

Statistics

Head to Head

This is the third of eight games this season between these two teams and the third time they have played in four days. Vegas won the previous two games of the season between these two.

Stats

  • In addition to winning both games of the season series thus far, Vegas won two of three games against the Coyotes last season. The Golden Knights have also now won 10 of the 14 meetings between the teams in their three-plus years of existence.
  • Arizona’s only win against Vegas last season came in its only home game of the series, though the Coyotes have historically struggled at home and have gained just 53.5 percent of possible points at Gila River Arena in their history.
  • Vegas is one of just three teams to win every game this season, but the only one of the bunch to play more than three games. The Golden Knights rank second in goals for, but have five players with at least two goals this season through four games.
  • Vegas’ .929 team save percentage ranks fifth best in the NHL while Arizona ranks 26th out of 31 teams with an .881 save percentage.

Our Prediction for Arizona vs. Vegas

Vegas Golden Knights to win

It’s really hard to win three games in a row against the same team, which is why we see teams go up 3-0 so rarely in playoff series in the NHL. But the Golden Knights are playing at just another level right now and the Coyotes have been unable to match that the last two games. A change in venue won’t lead to a change in result as Vegas should win comfortably yet again.
