Lightning vs Predators: Free Picks, Odds & Predictions

NHL Tampa Bay Lightning vs Nashville Predators
Tampa Bay vs. Nashville, Amalie Arena

These two teams played an exciting game Saturday night as Tampa Bay roared out to a big lead only for Nashville to claw back in the third period before falling short. Monday’s rematch in Tampa Bay will be interesting because the Predators will be hungry for a win after tough loss while the Lightning are simply looking to maintain some momentum from the victory.

Free Picks

It’s weird to say a player is due, but Ondrej Palat feels like that player for Tampa Bay. The winger scored three times in the first four games, but has been held scoreless the past two games. At +230 odds, the value is there from the hockey betting sites in New Jersey on Palat to regain his scoring touch. Palat was one of Tampa Bay’s most offensive players in Saturday’s game as Tampa Bay put up 21 shot attempts and allowed just nine while he was on the ice. Palat also started in the offensive zone on 10 of his 11 shifts that began with a faceoff, so he’ll have his chances in the offensive zone to test the Predators defense.

ONDREJ PALAT SCORES GOAL

There are two ways to make this bet at the NHL betting sites in New Jersey, depending upon how risky you want to be. You can throw away the safety net at +360 odds by betting under 0.5 goals in the first period, or you can give yourself a buffer by betting under one goal in the first period at +240 odds. Over the last eight periods of hockey, Tampa Bay has scored in just one of them – exploding for those four second-period goals Saturday. The Predators scored in the first period for just the second time this season in Saturday’s game, so they shouldn’t be a threat in the opening 20 minutes.

NO GOALS IN 1ST PERIOD

This bet could go haywire if Tampa Bay elects to rest Andrei Vasilevskiy for the first time this season, but Nashville is likely going to send out its top goalie, Jusse Saros, for Monday’s contest. Saros has been much better than Saturday’s starter Pekka Rinne this season and will be a tougher test for the Tampa Bay offense. The struggles of Nashville to score goals consistently will combine with Tampa Bay’s desire to play cleaner defensively after a sloppy third period allowed the Predators to climb back into the game on Saturday. The Lightning are the better team and should win, but this might be a lower scoring game. The +188 odds at the New Jersey legal sports betting sites aren’t great on this parlay, but they are better than trying to just pick Tampa Bay straight up.

Statistics

Head to Head

This is the second of eight meetings between Nashville and Tampa Bay as the two teams are in the same division for the first time.

Stats

  • Nashville had won seven of the previous 10 meetings with Tampa Bay before the Lightning won 4-3 on Saturday in the first meeting of the season.
  • Tampa Bay is one of seven teams in the NHL with perfect home records, and only three of them have more wins than the Lightning’s three home victories this season.
  • Tampa Bay has a three-way tie for the team points lead at seven with Steven Stamkos, Brayden Point and Victor Hedman sharing the honors. Anthony Cirelli is one point behind them at six points through six games.
  • Continuing the trend of the past few seasons, Juuse Saros has cemented himself as Nashville’s No. 1 goalie with a .918 save percentage and 2.54 goals against average in five starts. That is nearly 50 points and 0.8 goals better than Pekka Rinne after Renne suffered Saturday’s loss.

Our Prediction for Tampa Bay vs. Nashville

Tampa Bay Lightning to win

Saturday was an interesting game as Nashville was able to score first then dominate the third period in a one-goal loss. The issue is Tampa Bay showed its skill in the second period with four goals, the first three coming in less than five minutes, to win the game. The Lightning’s advantage on offense should pay dividends in this game again.
