A bantamweight clash of Rob Font vs Cody Garbrandt is set to serve as the main event for UFC Fight Night 188. Both men are skilled boxers, so we should see plenty of punches thrown. However, Font is the better striker, and he’s also a bit more versatile than Garbrandt. Font has opened as the betting favorite, and he’s looked great recently so he’s my pick for this one.
UFC Fight Night 188 is bringing us an excellent matchup between two great kickboxers in the bantamweight division. Rob Font vs Cody Garbrandt is set as the main event and has all the makings of a slugfest. The best UFC betting sites and MMA predictions say the smart money is on Font, who has looked excellent recently. He’s won four of his last five matches and is currently riding a three-fight winning streak. Font was last seen back in December 2020, when he took out Marion Moraes in the first round. It was a display of Font’s striking abilities, which we’ll surely get to see this weekend. Garbrandt is an excellent striker in his own right, though he’s more unpredictable and sometimes appears a bit careless. We haven’t seen Garbrandt in the octagon in nearly a year, but he did notch a victory against Raphael Assuncao, whom he knocked out in the second round. Statistically, Font has the edge over Garbrandt in a few categories. He’s a more proficient striker, landing 5.21 significant hits per minute, while Garbrandt lands 3.35 per minute. He’s also more accurate, landing 42% of his strikes, while Garbrandt lands 27% of his attacks. They’re both excellent boxers, and although they both have decent grappling skills at their disposal, it’s unlikely that this match is settled on the mat. I’m going with Font for this one, so if you want to follow suit, you should check out 888sport and the Sugar House sportsbook. Both sportsbooks have Font’s money line odds listed at -125.
Garbrandt will be relentless with his attacks, but Font’s fighting style is more calculated. Font will use his footwork to tire out Garbrnadt, and eventually, I believe he’ll make a mistake that’ll cost him the fight. My prediction: Font wins by KOP/TKO in the 3rd round.
