More MMA coming your way with UFC Fight Night 172 on June 13th. We’ve got a close one for the main event with bookies and pundits split over the matchup between Flyweights Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo. Find out how you can find value in this matchup with some smart bets with our Jessica Eye vs Cynthia Calvillo betting prediction for UFC Fight night 172. 888sport have both fighters at -110 while Fanduel lists Calvillo as the slight favorite at -116 with Eye at -110. I’ve seen other bookies have Eye as the slight favorite. Either way this fight is close to an even money fight but there is value here with some smart bets. Calvillo is moving up in weight class after struggling to make weight at strawweight. I see this step up as a great move for her and the fact that she does not have to cut weight will surely help her during fight night. Calvillo also has the speed advantage and she’s shown in previous fights that she can effectively use it. Eye is the more technical striker, with elite-level boxing however, she lacks knockout power and has watched eight of her last nine fights since 2015 go the distance. Takedowns are an effective weapon for Calvillo. She came from behind in her last fight against Marina Rodriguez to secure a majority draw by taking her down and dominating from the top to secure a 10-8 3rd round. Eye’s takedown defense is decent, but she can be taken down. She can at least find confidence in that she has not been submitted in the octagon since 2011. I have Calvillo pulling off the biggest win of her career here. Even though she is moving to a weight class where Eye has been a contender for some time, Calvillo does have experience fighting taller and bigger fighters. She performed impressively against solid strawweight competitor Cortney Casey who has similar vitals to Eye. She nullified Casey’s reach advantage with her creative striking and unpredictable footwork, and I see her doing the same thing to Eye. She has also been training with the American Kickboxing Academy, the same gym as grappling gods Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Time with those two living legends would have surely improved her already impressive grappling game. Those takedowns will score her vital points for when this fight goes to the judges’ scorecards. The safe bet here is a win for Calvillo. If you’re looking to add more value, consider going for a decision win as this fight will likely go the distance. Beating the number 1 contender of the division is an impressive way to announce yourself to the division, and Calvillo is on her way to doing just that.
