This mid-major conference that was shaken up last season, losing Houston, UCF, and Cincinnati while adding Final Four team FAU. The regular season race is over, with the #25 South Florida Bulls posting a three-game lead with three games to play.

The reason we are excited for this tournament is the fact that the conference may only get one team into March Madness. FAU’s Final Four run has given them the national reputation that could land them an at-large bid, but the same cannot be said for the rest of the conference.

South Florida is now ranked after going 14-1 in conference play but are still considered as a bubble team. As for the rest of the conference, they will all have to win the tournament to head into March Madness. That is going to create a ton of competition and could win bettors a lot of money.

No other conference tournament has the prestige and history as the Big East. While the conference has morphed over the years, the top three teams are among the nation’s best.

UConn enters as a solid favorite, and for good reason. They blew out Marquette and have beaten Texas, North Carolina, Gonzaga, and Creighton. Their 15-2 conference record signals that this team could be on track to repeat as National Champions.

While the favorite to win the Big East tournament has been winning the tournament of late, this year could be very different. Marquette is a very good team and could send a message when the host UConn next week. Creighton also beat the Huskies by 19 points last week, showing that this impressive team has some weaknesses.

While the rest of the conference isn’t overly impressive, the battle between the top three should be fantastic.

Few mid-major conferences have produced more Cinderella teams. The conference’s small size means only the tournament winner will likely qualify for March Madness.

Oakland enters as the favorite, but not by much. Youngstown State owns an impressive 22-9 record while Wright State is coming off a 21-points road win against Oakland. Those three teams have beaten up on each other and should continue to do so when the Horizon League Conference Tournament kicks off.

While the top three teams have similar odds to win the tournament, it would be a mistake to count Green Bay out. The Phoenix is just one game behind Oakland in the standings, though their 18-12 record leaves much to be desired. Green Bay isn’t always consistent, but they do have impressive wins against the top three teams, including an impressive 71-59 victory on the road against Youngstown State.

While this tournament won’t feature the stars that the Power 5 conferences have but expect a thrilling tournament as the Horizon League teams battle for their postseason lives.
