March Madness is right around the corner, but the ACC regular season title is still up for grabs. The North Carolina Tar Heels are currently in the lead and are the betting favorite, but we think there is money to be made betting on their rivals at betting sites.

Below, we will share how our USA Legal Betting experts see the three-team race and share why we are betting against the Tar Heels to win the conference. We’ll share everything you need to know to boost your bankroll before March Madness betting begins.

Why We Aren’t Betting on North Carolina

We have seen the Tar Heels win some impressive games, but the wheels have started to come off over the last few weeks. They have lost three of their last five games, with two losses coming against teams in the bottom half of the standings (Syracuse and Georgia Tech). While they did have an impressive win against Duke during that stretch, it was in the friendly confines of the Dean Smith Center.

UNC has a home win against Duke and have yet to play Virginia. They will have to face both of those team on the road to close out the season. That is going to be a big deal, given that the Tar Heels have some embarrassing home losses, showing they are vulnerable away from home.

The Tar Heels have just three teams remaining against teams towards the top of the ACC standings, road trips to Virginia and Duke will be enough to erase their slim conference lead.

Why We Love Duke to Win the ACC

Virginia is an intriguing longshot bet, but we are betting on Duke to win the ACC regular season title. One reason for that is Virginia’s remaining schedule. They will host a talented Wake Forest team on Saturday and North Carolina the following week. After that, the Cavaliers will need to head to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on Duke. While Duke also has some challenging games, they are home against Virginia and UNC.

Duke currently trails UNC by just a half-game. While they don’t own the tiebreaker after their loss to the Tar Heels earlier this month, they’ll have a chance to negate that when they play in the final game of the season.

We also like Duke because of their balance between offense and defense. They are second in the ACC in scoring (80.5 PPG) and fourth in opponent scoring (67.7 PPG), giving them almost a +13-point differential. Virginia leads the ACC in defense and UNC leads in offense, but both struggle on the other side of the ball. That can of balance wins championships, and we see it landing Duke another ACC title.

Finally, Duke has the best record of all three teams since December 1 at 14-3. UNC and Virginia are both 13-5 during that same span.
