The Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act (HB 774), sponsored by Rep. Casey Eure (R-116), had all of its sports betting verbiage removed by a Senate gaming committee last week. It was then advanced to the Senate floor, where it was opened for further discussion.

The Senate Gaming Committee approved and advanced Rep Casey Eure’s Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act (HB 774) to the Senate floor. The bill, which was approved by the House via a 97-134 vote two months ago, now has until the Senate adjourns on April 11 to receive full approval.

The Bill, known as the Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act, would authorize mobile sports betting under the condition that all sportsbook operators partner with retail establishments. The vote ended 97-14 in favor of the bill, which will now head to a Senate committee before potentially becoming law.

The 13-member group submitted its findings in a 95-page report. The Mississippi legislature is planning to explore an online sports betting bill during the 2024 session, which starts on Jan. 2, though many lawmakers still oppose the expansion of gambling.

Casey Eure (R) said to 11 members of the Mississippi mobile sports betting task force that he plans to follow up on his failed sports betting bill from last year, HB 606. The bill was created with the intent of legalizing sports wagering but was later amended and led to the creation of the task force.
