The Illinois House has approved the state’s 2025 budget, which includes a new progressive tax rate for the state’s eight online sportsbook. The legislature decided to make the change despite strong opposition from operators, which saw their stock prices drop.

The Illinois Senate has added a new proposal to the 2025 budget that would introduce a progressive tax rate for online sports betting operators. If passed, sportsbooks would be taxed at a rate between 20% and 40%, depending on the revenue they generate.

The new sportsbook will feature next to DraftKings’ retail betting parlor next to Wrigley on the corner of Addison Street and Sheffield Avenue. Customers will be treated to 32 betting kiosks and seven counters inside a 17,000-square-foot facility with 2,000 square feet of screens.
