After legalizing mobile sports betting in June 2023, Vermont sports betting will go live on January 11, 2024, with three authorized sportsbooks: DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics. The state adopted a conservative approach, to promote responsible gambling.

DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook were all awarded six-year online operator’s licenses. A total of five sportsbooks submitted applications to the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery, and those three were selected after a thorough vetting process.

“I first proposed Vermont legalize sports betting several years ago and I’m happy the Legislature has come to an agreement, as well," Scott said in a statement. “We know many Vermonters already participate in the marketplace and bringing it above board provides important resources and consumer protections.”

As 36 states continue to embrace their legal gambling markets, Vermont is now weighing up whether or not it will move to join the growing list of states with sports betting services. The state’s legislature is already meeting and expected to introduce a bill before the week ends.
