Highlights

  • Ronald Acuna Jr ranks in the top-20 in every major offensive category
  • Shohei Ohtani leads the league in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, and OPS
  • Fernando Tatis Jr has a .817 slugging percentage in June

With the NHL and NBA seasons officially complete, we are turning our attention to the world of MLB daily fantasy sports. In this article we will break down our top five most valuable players. We’ll review their season so far and share our reasons for their rankings. If you are looking for a boost to your DFS MLB betting strategy, you have come to the right place!

#1 Ronald Acuna Jr – OF Atlanta Braves

No surprise here as the NL MVP favorite tops our list. We are taking Acuna over Ohtani for his ability to contribute in every offensive categories. Acuna is currently second in the league in batting average, fifteenth in home runs, nineteenth in RBIs, first in runs, fourth in OPS, second in stolen bases, seventh in on-base percentage, and fifth in slugging percentage. As good as Ohtani is, even he can’t match the kind of production that Acuna has. The Braves star also benefits from hitting atop one of the best lineups in baseball, with the Braves ranking among the top five in the league in batting average, home runs, and RBIs.

#2 Shohei Ohtani – OF/SP Los Angeles Angels

Ohtani didn’t have a great May, but he is having a monster June campaign at the plate. The dual-threat has been red-hot this month, posting a .400 batting average, .500 on-base percentage, and a .938 slugging percentage. Ohtani now leads all of baseball in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, and OPS. His play has been so good that sportsbooks have put his AL MVP odds at -430 (courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook). The reason we have Ohtani behind Acuna is because of his pitching. The Angels’ star had 4.06 ERA in May and has a 4.76 ERA in June, making him a far less valuable DFS pitcher. His bat makes up for it, but we believe Acuna still offers more

#3 Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks

With players like Aaron Judge, Pete Alonso, and Yordan Alvarez all dealing with injury issues, it is time to consider spending big on Corbin Carroll. The 22-year-old has looked fantastic in his first full big league season. He has the third highest OPS in all of baseball, while ranking ninth in batting average. He has good power and hits in the heart of a solid Diamondbacks lineup. Carroll has also been active on the basepaths, stealing 19 bases already this season. Now is the time to add Carroll to your DFS lineup as he has a .349 batting average and .794 slugging percentage so far in June. While it remains to be seen if he can keep up this pace for the remainder of the season, his current play is too good to pass up.

#4 Freddie Freeman – 1B Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers first baseman has cooled down a bit in June but is still one of the best offensive players in the league in 2023. He is third in batting average, fifth in OPS, seventh in slugging percentage, and sixth in on-base percentage. While his power numbers are below what we have come to expect from him, his ability to get on base is exactly what this loaded Dodgers lineup needs. He will have plenty of opportunities for RBIs and runs while hitting in the heart of this lineup, and his ability to hit for average will keep him as a top DFS player for the remainder of the season. While he doesn’t contribute to as many categories as the other players on this list, Freeman remains a top five DFS option.

#5 Fernando Tatis Jr – OF San Diego Padres

It took a little while for Tatis to get back into the groove after returning from his suspension, but he has looked like his old self so far in June. He has posted a .400 batting average, .500 on-base percentage, and .817 slugging percentage so far this month. He has also stolen seven bases while hitting five home runs for 15 RBIs. These are the numbers we saw from him two years ago, making us believe that Tatis is officially back. At his best, Tatis can be the best DFS player, so now is the time to add him to your lineups.
