I’m surprised by the +310 odds here. The 49ers are +1.5 favorites for the game as it is, so clearly the bookmakers are expecting a tight match. With 3-point wins against both the Packers and Lions in the playoffs, the 49ers have proven they can win a close game.

KC Wins by 7 – 12 points | +550 at BetMGM

While the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl on the strength of their defense, they still have Mahomes and Kelce on offense. Combining these factors, I can see them shut down Brock Purdy, score some TDs and win the game by 10 points.

The 49ers offense is at its best when McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel are running the ball. They can both score from anywhere on the field. Combine that with the Chiefs defense being ranked 4th against the pass and 17th against the run and look for 49ers to feature a run-heavy offense.

Patrick Mahomes passing over under 262.5 yards | -110 at FanDuel

Outside of Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes doesn’t have the top=tier receivers that we’ve been accustomed to in previous seasons. Combine that with a 49ers defense that has a tough secondary and powerful front four, and betting the under is the smart choice. 

Brock Purdy passes for under 241.5 | -114 at BetRivers

The 49ers strength is their running game and run defense is not a strength for the Chiefs. Therefore, I don’t expect Kyle Shanahan to ask Purdy to challenge the Chiefs 4th ranked defense too much. I expect him to manage the game and throw for 180 – 220 yards

Christian McCaffrey to Score 2+ TDS | +430 at FanDuel

Christian McCaffrey has scored two TDS in both playoff games this year, including against the Detroit Lions #2 ranked rushing defense. I expect him to have scoring opportunities in both the running and passing game against the Chiefs defense.  

Travis Kelce First TD | +600 at BetMGM

Kelce hasn’t scored a first TD all season, and the +600 odds reflect that. However, he and Mahomes have built a lot of trust and chemistry over the years, and I see the Chiefs looking to get Kelce in the end zone early to help set the tone.

KC running back Isiah Pacheco brings a 3 game TD streak into Super Bowl LVIII. Next to Mahomes he’s the most important piece of this offense. The -134 odds are a good indication that Andy Reid will try and get Pacheco into the end zone at least one time.

Christian McCaffrey for MVP | +450 at FanDuel

It’s always a risk betting on a position player for MVP, but the +450 odds make the risk easier to manage.  I have a feeling if the 49ers win the game, it will be because of McCaffrey and not Brock Purdy. He’ll have a statistical advantage over other players because he’s featured in both the running and passing game.

Patrick Mahomes for MVP | +130 at BetRivers

The +130 odds can only be because the oddsmakers don’t think the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl. However, if history has taught us anything, it’s don’t bet against Patrick Mahomes because he finds a way to win. If the Chiefs win the game, look for Mahomes to win his 3rd MVP.
