Many thought this legalized sports betting bill was destined to fail after a similar bill went through the Kentucky House only for the Senate to kill it with a lack of support from the more traditional GOP caucus in the Bluegrass State.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) refused to grant access for DraftKings to add the 26.2-mile race’s odds under the “special events” category. Betting on the famous test of endurance has never been an option in its host state in the past.

The proposals are already receiving more support than similar pieces of legislation did last year when they failed to make it past committee hearings. The early support is symbolic of the building momentum inside of Texas that stems from increased support from lawmakers and public pressure.

According to the current guidelines, teams are permitted to have sportsbooks inside their arenas but may not operate them on game days. However, owners are expected to vote in favor of changing that rule to create a more immersive experience and capitalize on the patronage of game-attending fans.

North Carolina is one of 36 states that have legalized sports betting in at least some form, although the options are restricted to a few in-person outlets. Online sports betting has been more divisive, largely due to the debate over betting on college sports.

The pro-sports betting crowd is supported by a coalition of owners and representatives of local professional sports teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Blues, and more. The group has been beating down lawmakers’ doors for more than a year but has been stymied at the crucial steps.

Alabama is one of 14 states that have not legalized sports betting in any form. Two states, Ohio and Massachusetts, that launched their respective sports betting markets this calendar year have enjoyed highly fruitful periods since.

Betr, co-owned by industry veteran Joey Levy and internet superstar-turned-boxer Jake Paul, originally launched as a substitute for regular online sportsbooks. Instead of betting on which team would win a game or the final score, players could guess small outcomes such as the result of the next shot, pitch, or play.

Kentucky has been grappling with the idea of creating a legal sports betting market ever since the 2018 PAPSA opened the door to gambling nationwide. 36 states and Washington D.C. have since made the change, but Kentucky has not been able to reach any agreements.

The popularity of bracket-filling is not lost on the AGA either. According to the survey, an estimated 56.3 million people plan to participate in a bracket contest while 31 million Americans will bet online with a sportsbook and another 21.5 million will exchange wagers casually with friends.
