Massachusetts legalized retail sports betting on January 31 and less than three months after it launched online sports betting on March 10. Milt Champion, executive director of the Gambling Control Unit, was told to take a hiatus last Wednesday after it was revealed he posted sexist and racially-charged tweets. The suspension was announced shortly after a reporter for the Portland Press Herald inquired about the tweets.

According to the American Gaming Association (AGA)’s Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker, the first quarter of 2023 resulted in a three-month record revenue total of $2.79 billion. That’s a 70.1% increase year-to-year and a slight improvement over the previous quarterly record of $2.61 billion from Q4 2022.

“I've said repeatedly there is little to no support for expanding gaming from Senate GOP,” Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a longstanding opponent to the expansion of legal sports betting, said on Twitter. “I polled members this week. Nothing changed. The senate must focus on issues voters expect us to pass.”

While the anticipation of the new casino, the Windy City’s first, continues to build, its parent company needs to meet diversity standards established by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Bally’s proposed the idea to the SEC in a letter that is confidential for the time being.
