Groups and Teams

The 24 qualified soccer nations are divided into 4 groups, with each group based in 2 of the host European cities.

Euro 2020 (2021) Group A teams

Turkey, Italy, Wales, Switzerland
(Rome & Baku)

1968 Euro champs, Italy, are Group A’s highest seed and expected to progress. Of the others, a second qualifier is relatively open and up-for-grabs. Switzerland are the next most-likely to progress ahead of Turkey, while Wales are expected to struggle.

Euro 2020 (2021) Group B teams

Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Russia
(Copenhagen & St Petersburg)

Home games will assist both Denmark and Russia’s qualification causes and they will battle it out for 2nd place in Group B. Belgium are the standout team, having finished 3rd at the 2018 World Cup and winning all 10 qualifying matches. Finland will need to overperform to progress.

Euro 2020 (2021) Group C teams

Austria, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Ukraine
(Amsterdam & Bucharest)

Stick with the two ‘home teams’ to qualify here from Group C. Playing at home in Amsterdam, The Netherlands have rebuilt nicely. With Bucharest to welcome thousands of fans from neighboring Ukraine, both are expected to qualify easily. Apologies to Austria and North Macedonia, they are making up the numbers.

Euro 2020 (2021) Group D teams

Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Scotland
(London & Glasgow)

England, after topping qualifying, should win the group. World Cup runners-up Croatia should be the second qualifier from Group B, but the Czechs are dangerous having defeated England in qualifying and can progress as one of the top 3rd-placed teams. The Scots will be up against it despite playing-at-home.

Euro 2020 (2021) Group E teams

Spain, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia
(Seville & Saint Petersburg Stadium)

2008-and-2012 Euro winners Spain should progress from Group E, enjoying home support. Slovakia are out of it, leaving the Poles and Swedes to battle for the remaining qualifying place. Poland were superb in qualifying (losing only once), while the Swedes pushed Spain all the way. The Poles should sneak through.

Euro 2020 (2021) Group F teams

France, Germany, Hungary, Portugal
(Budapest & Munich)

If there is a Group of Death, this is it. World Cup champs France and 3-times Euro winners Germany are the favorites to progress from Group F. However reigning champions, Portugal are hot competition. Look for Portugal to progress as one of the best 3rd-placed teams. Sorry Hungary, no way through.

Tournament Structure & Playing Conditions

Euro 2020 includes 24 teams that are all drawn into 6 groups of four.

The teams play in round-robin format in the Group stage, playing each other once. At the end of group play, the top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams advance to the knockout phase. New Jersians betting on the Euro 2020 winner will need to check if their chosen team has a definitive pathway to the knockout phase.

The Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Tournament Final are all knockout play with the winning team progressing and the losers bowing out.

If the knockout matches are level after 90 minutes, extra time and penalties will be used to determine which nation progresses to the next phase. Bettors need to check with their online sportsbook if results are at full-time after extra time or penalties, or on the result at 90 minutes.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be used at the Euro 2020 tournament to adjudicate on clear-and-obvious errors in matching changing situations like goals, penalty decisions, direct red-card incidents and mistaken identity. Those betting on first-or-anytime goal scorers in a match can be confident their wagers will be supported by the latest in VAR technology.

Betting Markets & Odds

  • Moneyline Bet – Place a wager on any Euro 2020 Match to win, lose or draw with a moneyline bet betting. Suits bettors who enjoy picking the winners (or losers) on each match. For example, place a wager on Italy to win the tournament’s first match against Turkey at -215 means you would have to bet $215 to win a base amount of $100. Positive odds moneyline odds (Like +300 for example) have more risk but greater payouts.
  • Parlay Betting – Parlay wagers are an accumulated number of bets taken over a selection of Euro 2020 games. Odds accumulate just like compound interest with each successful leg of the parlay, delivering huge wins if all legs of your wager end up being successful.
  • Totals or Over/Under Euro 2020 Betting – An over/under bet is wagering on a Euro 2020 match to finish with a certain amount of goals or not. Odds are usually offered at a standard 2.5 goals line, although they may blow out when a strong team is playing an underdog side, an opportunity to win big on underdog winners!
  • Both Teams to Score Betting – On any match, you can receive great Euro 2020 betting odds to place a wager if both teams will score (or not).
  • Half-Time Euro 2020 Betting – Usually in-play wagers available at halftime, bettors can place their wagers at reset betting odds.
  • First Goal – (team-or-player)– Place a wager on which team or player will score the first goal of any Euro 2020 match.

Betting Strategies

Betting strategies for Euro 2020 vary between what will happen at the group stages and once the tournament enters the knockout stages.

For example, the percentage of draws at the group stage is usually much higher at a big tournament in crucial group play (for example France vs Germany, or England vs Croatia in the Group stage this year) with teams content to take a single point and move on. Group stage matches at the Euros have a 31.3% chance of a draw, compared to an English Premier League Match, at about a 25% chance of a draw.

Betting at the knockout stage of Euro 2020, look for previous match-up form between the two teams involved, for example, have they met in qualifying or a recent friendly. Steer clear of betting on the draw in the knockout stages at 90 minutes as few teams want to play extra time or go to penalties; they more often risk-it-all to win in normal time.

Keep personal bias out of your Euro 2020 betting decisions as much as you possible.

Betting as early as you can before the tournament begins is a sure-fire way to get the best betting odds on your choice to win Euro 2020.
